Synopsis
Children of the Sun explores the lives of the children born to the first kibbutzim, or collective communities, established in Israel in the mid-1930’s. The film consists of home movies and newsreels from these years set to the narration of the children themselves, now grown up and reflecting on their childhoods.
In hearing these men and women discuss the successes and failures of the “experiment” that was their childhood, we are both uplifted and humbled. Some remained on the kibbutz and maintained the ideals they were brought up with while others ventured off to begin new lives. Regardless of where they ended up, these children of the sun will forever be connected through their shared experience that, in turn, has become a part of Israel’s history.
