Omanoot develops lesson plans that use art as the catalyst to delve into the complexities of contemporary Israel. Lesson plans include creative activities that directly engage students to think critically and share personal opinions with their peers. Avraham Tal, Yom Hazikaron Teaching
Adam Tzover Zichronot

In honor of Yom HaZikaron l'Chalaley Tzahal (Memorial Day for Fallen Soldiers) and Yom HaAtzmaut (Independence Day) Omanoot prepared a lesson plan using Avraham Tal's music video of Adam Tzover Zichronot (A Man Collects Memories). This lesson speaks of the importance of memories, individual and collective, and the important role they play in our lives. They serve not only as symbols of our past to learn from, but also as necessary appreciation for the great events and lives that allowed us to live as we do today.

Zoya Cherkassky, An Art-Full Seder

Zoya's Art-Full Seder

Here is a special Passover teaching we came up with using imagery from Israeli secular modern visual artist, Zoya Cherkassky.

Zoya challenges her viewer to reconcile traditional Jewish and anti-Semitic imagery in order to seek a deeper meaning in the images of the traditional Haggadah. Omanoot guides an exploration into Zoya's interpretation of the "four sons" and invites seder-goers to seek a provocative and artistic discussion.

Adi Nes, Biblical Stories

Sample Lesson Plan

This lesson plan offers students an opportunity to learn from the work of Israeli photographer Adi Nes. Students will observe a series of his photographs, examining the use of visual media as midrash and as a tool to better understand Israeli and Jewish history and culture. The questions and activities within this lesson plan will enable students to connect with the art and the themes it highlights in an interactive and challenging way. Students will discuss what it means to be "my brother's keeper" and the concept of a national identity, connecting these themes to the greater picture of the Jewish people and Israel.

This lesson was created in partnership with photographer Adi Nes.
